It is estimated that tinnitus affects approximately 10-15% of the population. Often described as a ringing or buzzing sound within the ear, tinnitus is often more noticeable when your surroundings offer no other sounds to compete with the symptoms.

The Canadian Hearing Institute has a dedicated team who are committed to providing tinnitus management to residents in and around Blenheim, and offering relief and counseling to each of our clients, to help them manage and control their tinnitus symptoms.

Can my Tinnitus be completely cured?

When tinnitus has been evaluated, our Blenheim patients have noticed that their condition had improved and become more manageable. Although there is no cure to fix tinnitus, a number of methods are effective in managing tinnitus. These include tinnitus masking devices, or Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) which helps to block out the noise caused by the condition.

Is there a way to prevent Tinnitus?

Wearing hearing protection when you are exposed to loud noises, reduces your risk of developing tinnitus. If noise is so loud that you cannot speak at a normal conversational level, you should move away from the noise source, or wear ear plugs, or turn down the volume. When tinnitus has developed along with some hearing loss, a hearing aid may provide some improvement.
