At the Canadian Hearing Institute, our team is fully committed to assisting residents of Belle River move beyond the nuisance of hearing loss. We are dedicated to bringing back everyday sounds to your life, and enabling you to hear more distinctly.

Multiple forms of Hearing Loss

Conductive Hearing Loss: If you find quieter sounds become more difficult to hear and ambient noise becomes diminished, this could be conductive hearing loss. This type of hearing loss could be the result of sound being reduced or dampened by obstruction somewhere between the outer ear canal, the eardrum, and the tiny bones (ossicles) of the middle ear. Fortunately, a conductive hearing loss can frequently be corrected with medical intervention.

Sensorineural Hearing Loss: Sensorineural hearing loss or SNHL, is a condition where there is damage to the inner ear (cochlea) itself, or to the nerve pathways that transmit sound signals from the inner ear to brain receptors. SNHL hearing loss cannot typically be corrected by medical intervention. Residents of Belle River who find themselves with hearing loss may be experiencing SNHL, the most common form of permanent hearing loss.

Many possible symptoms are associated with SNHL hearing loss including difficulty in following conversations when two or more people are talking, and difficulty hearing in noisy areas.

Mixed Hearing Loss: Sometimes damage occurs in the outer or middle ear, and in the inner ear (cochlea) or auditory nerve at the same time. This condition is a combination of conductive hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) referred to as a ‘mixed hearing loss’.
